Why did I forget cinema for the last 12 years?says Aravind Swamy
Actor Aravind Swamy has given a re-entry after 12 years through the film Kadal directed by Manirathnam. He was asked that why he had given such a long break. He replied, "When I was aged 20 years, Manirathnam made me act in Thalapathy.
At that time I never knew anything about acting. I did what he said. That film earned me a good name. I shared the screen with Tamil super star Rajnikanth and Malayalam super star Mammootty in my first film itself. People also enjoyed me along with them.
Next I donned the lead role in Roja. Next I had acted in Bombay. All of them were super hits. I was moving towards the number one position. At this juncture my mother passed away. I was so affectionate towards my mother. My mother’s death made me desolate. After this, I sustained a severe spinal injury in an accident. I was not in a position to bend also.
Somehow I managed to get out of it but I was forced to take care of my father’s business. I was having one after another problem. My problems forced me to take 12 years break. In between I got some offers but I did not accept them. I knew that I cannot go back with my earlier chocolate boy image.
The reason is that time has changed my appearance. Manirathnam sir told me that I should not be like this and brought me to Kadal. I will continue to act but I don’t have the desire to act in many films. Even if I act in one or two films, I will act in the roles suitable to me."
