I will stay in Chennai and compose music for lots of Tamil films says A R Rahman....

Oscar Award winning music composer A R Rahman has mentioned that he will stay in Chennai and compose music for lots of Tamil films.

 

In a chat with him:

 

Why have you stopped composing music for Tamil films after you got Oscar Awards?

 

After receiving Oscar Awards I started getting opportunities to compose music for Hollywood films. I was not able to avoid them. I had to stay in United States for a year. In spite of this I was composing music for Tamil films through video conferencing.

 

In future, will you be composing music for lots of Tamil films?

 

Definitely, I will compose music for lots of Tamil films. I am currently composing music for Tamil films Kochadaiyaan, Mariyaan, Gautham Menon’s film, Siddarth’s film and also for a film directed by Rajeev Menon.

 

What is the reason for this sudden decision?

 

For the last 14 years I was going around the world. Whenever I leave Chennai to a foreign country, my son Ameen, daughters Rahima and Khatija used to ask me, “Why are you going to a foreign country, daddy? Stay here itself.” I also don’t want to part away from them. Children have grown up. I should fulfil their desire as a father.

 

How much priority do you give for Tamil films than other language films?

 

I am interested in composing music for Tamil films. The producers and directors for whose film I have composed music know about this.

 

There are lots of music composers these days in Tamil films?

We have heard that Yuvan Shankar Raja has sung a song for which you have composed music?

 

It is true. Mariyaan is a film which is being produced by Aascar Films and directed by Bharath Bala. Dhanush who is donning the lead role in this film has penned a lyric for a song. All of them mentioned that it would be good if Yuvan rendered his voice for this song. After hearing Yuvan’s voice, we made him sing this song. He finished this song in one and half hours.

 

There is a talk that you will compose music only for big actors and directors films. What is your answer to this?

 

I had composed music for the Tamil film Chakkarakatti. That was not a big actor film. That film was a flop. There are added expectations for the films that I compose music for. People have given me a place. I should not cheat them. I should not miss the opportunity that they had given me. Music is above successes and failures.

 

Earlier you use to compose music during the nights. Are you still continuing with that practice?

 

I am getting older. I am not working in the nights like my earlier days. I work in the nights only if it is really necessary.
